A poem inspired by a winter visit to the Norfolk countryside in February 2023. Crafted by my friend Piers.
End of a winter’s afternoon.
A banded landscape
early green hemming
coffee-ground fields
threaded with the teased-out wool
of gathering mist.
Charcoal tree silhouettes
trace the horizon
where coral embers flare :
molten bars, wedged
under a belly of pale heron-grey.
