These are photos of the Orchid Peristeria elata , also known as the Holy Dove orchid – the Orchid of the Holy Spirit.
If you look closely, you will see the shape of the dove, one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit.
A native of South America, it is the national flower of Panama, but is also widely found in Venezuela and Ecuador.
It blooms in the season of Easter and appropriately, Pentecost.
It is said that if you give or send this orchid from one person to another, you send the blessing of the Holy Spirit.
I am rather hoping that is also the case when photographs are sent.
So in anticipation, I’d like to thank my dear friend Carole (- with an e -) for sending me the photos.
O Breath of life, come sweeping through us,
Revive your church with life and pow’r;
O Breath of life, come, cleanse, renew us,
And fit your church to meet this hour.
O Breath of love, come breathe within us,
Renewing thought and will and heart;
Come, Love of Christ, afresh to win us,
Revive your church in every part.
O Wind of God, come bend us, break us,
Till humbly we confess our need;
Then in Thy tenderness remake us,
Revive, restore, for this we plead.
Revive us, Lord! Is zeal abating
While harvest fields are vast and white?
Revive, us Lord, the world is waiting,
Equip Thy church to spread the light.
Elizabeth Ann Porter Head
Jesus said, I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.
John 14:25-26
